the BRIEF

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, my husband was unable to continue conducting experiments in person as a PhD candidate. To stay productive, he wrote a review paper summarizing all the research in his area of study. He enlisted my skills to show some of those findings visually, and together we created a series of scientific figures that were published and selected to be on the cover of that issue. Since that work was published, I’ve worked with more scientists to create other scientific figures for their papers and presentations as well.

JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR AND CELLULAR CARDIOLOGY

Under construction: The dynamic assembly, maintenance, and degradation of the cardiac sarcomere

Scientific review article that discussed the molecular biology regulating cardiac muscle maintenance and how it is disrupted in disease settings. Figures described the key molecular factors involved in this process, and the article was selected for the cover art of the monthly journal issue it appeared in.

This figure features construction men working on a building amongst a city skyline, to represent the molecules that mediate building and breakdown of muscle components.

Molecular Mechanisms Regulating Cell Death

Published in Cells March 2023 Issue

Cell death (apoptosis) mechanisms are regulated by the co-chaperone protein BAG3, which helps to maintain viability.

Protein Turnover Mechanism in Muscle

This figure highlights the molecular mechanisms that regulate turnover of proteins in muscle cells.
